Bom Jesus Sanctuary Wins Five Regions Star Award

The Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, in Braga, has won another award, this time the Five Star Regions Award, in the Sites and Heritage category.

It is a prize based on an evaluation system that identifies, according to the Portuguese population, the best that exists in mainland Portugal and the Islands, in terms of natural resources, gastronomy, art and culture, heritage and other icons of national reference.

Bom Jesus joins a group of winners in this year’s edition, which involved the participation of 346,000 Portuguese.

In the words of the President of the Confraria do Bom Jesus do Monte, Canon Mário Martins rules that “this prize comes together with others that we received recently and fill us with enormous satisfaction, above all because the Portuguese chose our own Sanctuary, giving it this distinction that highlights us as an iconic monument of national reference. We will continue to work on promoting, valuing and safeguarding this World Heritage site, without thinking about prizes, but in the certainty that we do it for the common good, so that people can see in Bom Jesus a place of tranquility and serenity, of welcome. and peace, which can and must be visited mainly due to the necessary pandemic and post-pandemic times, in which a progressive opening is expected for the reunion with us, with others and with the Other. ”
