Centurion Statue

Centurion Statue

A few steps ahead, we are before the Centurion statue, dressed in arms, as a Roman soldier, represented with a shield on his left arm and a spear in his right hand, confirming to Pilatos the death of Jesus.

His presence here is justified by having given the body of Jesus to José of Arimateia, at the command of Pilatos, and having been to inform him that Jesus would already be dead.

On the plinth of the figuration is the biblical excerpt: «ET CUM COGNOVISSET A CENTURIONE DONAVIT CORPUS IOSEPH », translated by: «Informed by the centurion, ceded the corpse to José. ».
