Statue and Fountain of S. João

S. João

Statue and Fountain

We now have in front of the statue and the fountain of St. John. According to the logical sequence of the evangelists this would have to be the last and in the place of this should be St. Lucas. It may be noted that St. João bears the gospel in his hands, symbol of the book he wrote.

At the foot of the statue, the message in Latin: «IN PRINCIPLE ERAT VERBUM AND VERBUM ERAT APUD DEUM, ET GOD ERAT VERBUM», translated: «in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.».

Below the inscription, the head of an eagle appears, spouting water through the beak.
