Statue of Noé

Statue of Noé

A few more steps put us on another level, dedicated to the allegory of smell. Patriarch Noah, a symbol of faith and hope after the flood, built an altar, took the animals and pure birds, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

He is represented by an old man dressed in priestly robes with a trump on his head, holding a lamb in his arms by an altar.

By being righteous he is saved from the flood, together with his family, obtaining the promise that the human race will last forever.

The «ODORATUS EST DOMINUS ODOREM SUAVITATIS», duly framed in the carton, is translated: «you felt the pleasant odor», evoking the sacrifice of Noé, where the aroma appeals to its state of purity.
