On May 25, the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, within the scope of the ISA Culture project, hosted a guided tour focused on enhancing cultural accessibility through the promotion of the five senses.
Sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste were the guiding themes of a tour aimed at bringing heritage closer to new audiences. The Stairway of the Five Senses and its allegorical fountains, each representing one of the senses, challenge visitors to a comprehensive appreciation of the entire space. It is through the senses that the sublime character of this hill elevates us to new ways of being.
This approach, which we identify with, aligns with the promotion carried out by the Confraria do Bom Jesus do Monte. The five senses serve as both a physical and spiritual apprehension of this World Heritage site.
Destino 4all – Tourism for All provided the guides and partnered with the Bracara Augusta Foundation in this project.
This project is part of the “ISA Culture Intellectually and Socially Accessible On the way to Equality: Culture as a tool for social inclusion and labor integration” initiative, funded by the Erasmus+ program. It is led by the Bracara Augusta Foundation and includes partners such as CERCI Braga; the Portuguese Catholic University – Braga Regional Center; the University of Burgos – UBU; Zavod RISA; Profitecla School; SYnergia Portugal and SYnergia Braga; and the Lúcio Craveiro da Silva Library.
