The ‘Camilo 200 A Norte’, Organizing Committee for the Bicentennial Celebrations of the Birth of Camilo Castelo Branco – which will be celebrated on March 16, 2025 – chose the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte for the 3rd Partners Meeting.
The day began with the presentation of a reissue of the famous novel «No Bom Jesus do Monte», already available for sale at Casa das Estampas. The setting included a copy of the 1st edition from 1864 from the Archives of the Brotherhood of Bom Jesus do Monte.
The President of CBJM, Rev. Canon Mário Martins, hosted the event, which featured the presence and speeches of the Mayor of Braga, Dr. Ricardo Rio, the Vice-President of CCDR-N, Dr. Jorge Sobrado, the representative of the publisher Opera Omnia, Dr. José Manuel Costa, and also the Professor of Literature at UCP, Dr. José Cândido Oliveira Martins.
Additionally, protocols were signed with new partners who generously wished to join these celebrations (totaling 33 so far).
Finally, the CBJM project for the rehabilitation of the “Jardim de Camilo” was presented by its author: Architect Francisco Guedes de Carvalho from Atelier do Beco da Bela Vista (Porto).
After lunch, the proceedings continued.
The Camilo Bicentennial will continue to be celebrated with a wide program of cultural, scientific, and artistic events, solidifying the author’s legacy as an essential reference in Portuguese literature.
